Cardiff Theatre and Film: January 2018!

Oh yes, it's 2018 and it's sure to be a good one when it comes to theatre and film in the Welsh Capital! I'm so excited about all the things on this list, from musicals to drama to spooky vampires, Cardiff is starting the New Year with a bang!

What's on in Cardiff at the theatre...

The Band at Wales Millennium Centre looks set to entertain the crowds this month, with a stunning set of songs from Take That's memorable past, including A Million Love Songs, Shine and Back For Good. The show is running from to January 2018 and tickets start from £19.50.

There's also still chance to catch Miss Saigon too, with a few days remaining of this performance. Check out my review here to see what we thought of the show! Tickets start from £25.00 and the show is running until 6th January 2018, so if you want to catch it you need to be quick!

If you haven't had chance to catch a panto this year then New Theatre is the place for you. Snow White is running until 14th January, with tickets starting from as little as £13.00. Don't forget to check out our review too!

In fact, New Theatre is pretty busy this January, with two other performances coming to the stage. Featuring the music of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, Jersey Nights is running from 23rd-27th January, and it looks set to be a show full of musical delights including Walk Like A Man and
Big Girls Don't Cry. Tickets start from £13.50.

If music isn't your bag, never fear... On 30th January Ruth Rendell's Gallowglass hits New Theatre and it looks perfect for those who love an unusual tale. This story seems steeped in psychological and obsessive twists, and I for one am very intrigued as to how it will play out. Tickets start from £13.00 and the show runs until 3rd February.

St David's Hall have a spooky offering this January in the form of Vampires Rock Ghost Train. This performance looks full of comic fun, offering music from Queen, Meat Loaf and many other fantastic bands. The show is for one night only on 27th January and tickets range from £26.50-£28.50.

Cardiff Film in January...

There are some seemingly amazing movies out this month, so many that Warren and I have been waiting for. What's more exciting is the fact that Chapter Arts will be showing quite a lot of them, and if you haven't been to this little hidden gem in Canton, then this month is the perfect excuse to go!

Downsizing is released on the 24th January and it comes to Chapter on the 26th. The story follows Paul and Audrey as they embark on a journey to a better life. They decide to be miniaturised to save money, resources and help the planet, but after the initial excitement wains, they realise this smaller world has just as man problems! We've been waiting a while to see this one, we just can't wait!

Molly's Game seems to be another corker of a film and you can catch it at Chapter from the 12th January. The story follows Molly as she reaches the height of her career as not only an Olympic-class skier but as the owner of the world's most exclusive poker game before being arrested by the FBI. Based on a true story, this looks like a really exciting film and I can't wait to catch it!

If horror is your thing then the latest instalment of Insidious is here - Insidious: The Last Key. From what we know of the previous films you can almost guarantee a true scare fest, but what I love most about the Insidious movies is the full circle storyline, leaving you feeling as though some sense of normality has been restored (even when there's a cliffhanger ending!).

I'm going to finish up with a suggestion that won't be everyone's first choice, but maybe it should be. Documentary Jane uses unseen footage to show her adventures discovering the life of Chimpanzees in the wild. This footage looks absolutely stunning and I will definitely be going to see this! It's on at Chapter from the 12th-18th January.

I know there are so many other performances and movies for everyone to get their teeth into this January, but these are my favourites! Please feel free to add your suggestions in the comments, the more the merrier!

Happy New Year!
