Halloween at X-Scream: A Horror Fan's Dream!

You know it's Halloween when X-Scream come to town. Set in the glorious grounds of Rhondda Heritage Park X-Scream offers fearful delights, scare-tastic screams and a chance to celebrate Halloween in style! This year it's all about the classic slasher flick, with appearances from the likes of creepy Michael Myers and the terrifying Freddy Kruger.
This year Warren went along with his friend Ross to test it out and I thought it would be fun to interview Warren straight after his spooktacular night…

What were your initial thoughts as you approached the park tonight?

'I was excited and a little bit nervous. After going last year I really wasn't sure what to expect. I hadn't read much into it and I thought it was going to be the same as 2016, but when I found out there was a different them I literally had no idea what to expect!'

What did you wear? What would you advise other people to wear?

'I wore a couple of layers, but nothing too restrictive. Flat, practical shoes and (as advised) I wore nothing too precious, just in case it got damaged or marked.'

What age range is the experience for?

'I'd say over 18, but the guidelines are 16+ and 13-15 years if accompanied by an adult.'

Are there any set rules for attending the event?

'Yes. No costumes, masks or hats. No photography. No food or drink allowed into the experience. If you try to enter and you're drunk you will not be allowed in. You must listen to the staff at all times, as well as refraining from touching any of the actors, but they are permitted to touch you.'

How long does the experience last?

'About 40 minutes.'

On a scale of 1-10 (1= not very scary at all and 10= terrifying) how would you rate your experience?

'8! It was full of jumps, scares and things that creep you out.'

What was your favourite part and why?

'Either the time one of the actors crawled up behind me and ran their fingers down my back or when I saw Leatherface coming with his chainsaw and it reminded me of last year! Definitely time to run!'

What was your least favourite part and why?

'When they placed hoods over our heads. It made me feel quite nervous and a little claustrophobic.'

Was there much in the way of decoration around the park?

'There were lots of spooky decorations inside and well designed set pieces. I liked the House of Fun/Horrors, it was a really nice addition and gave more depth to the experience compared to last year; passing through the inflatable wall was pretty nerve racking but a lot of fun!'

Is there somewhere to chill out after the event?

'Yes. Before and after you have the opportunity to mingle in the marquee where there's a bar, haystacks and picnic tables to sit on/at. There's lots to see there, including pumpkins, skeletons, ghosts, cobwebs and a big hairy spider.'

What advice would you give to someone who was considering buying a ticket?

'If you like to be scared and you're into your horror movies then it's definitely for you, but be prepared in terms of clothing and footwear. If you're of a nervous disposition or suffer from anxiety then it's probably not advisable to attend. Apart from the odd chase, there's nothing too strenuous, but it's important to be reasonably fit to attend. It would be great fun to go with a group of friends, Ross and I had a such a great time.'

Is there anything else you'd like to say about the experience?

'I had a great time and I look forward to returning next year. Finger's crossed I can get an acting role in 2018 because I LOVE scaring people!'

The experience is running on selected nights between 12th-31st October and prices range from £16.99 to £22.99 depending on the day you decide to go. It sounds like it's well worth a visit and it's probably the best way to celebrate Halloween...

Happy Halloween folks!

Disclosure: Warren received two tickets in exchange for review. All opinions are 100% honest.
