A Letter for Bear By David Lucas Book Review

dsc_0057

We are huge fans of Flying Eye Books and we've reviewed both The Journey and Arthur and the  Golden Rope for them before.

This month it's all about those sentimental kind of books, the ones that make you feel full of Christmas spirit and joy. A Letter for Bear by David Lucas is a sweet and heart-warming tale of Bear, a lonely postman who delivers letters to all the other animals but never receives any himself.

This book is suitable for Christmas and the whole year round too. Even though it's set in the snowy hills, the message is a constant reminder of friendship and the beautiful feeling of being surrounded by love.

When we received the book we immediately settled down on the sofa and began to read. And what a joy it was…

Firstly, I am always in favour of hardback books, there's a certain quality to them (and I believe they do actually last longer) and they are great to hold and read to/with your children. This book in particular is full of rich colours and modern illustrations with a traditional twist.

The story is very sentimental, we follow Bear on his journey and it actually encouraged the children to empathise and spot when somebody is sad/lonely. We talked about how we would feel if we were Bear and we discussed how great it feels to get post or a delivery and how we should make an effort to write and send postcards to other people.

The ending is so positive and after we'd finished reading it George and Molly drew their favourite part of the book…

We love this book and it would be perfect wrapped and popped under the Christmas tree for a special little person (or two!).

For £10 this special little book should be at the top of your bookish wish list :)

Disclosure: I received this book in exchange for review. All opinions are 100% honest and my own.
